Music Review: SR3MM by Rae Sremmurd

In Hip-Hop today, we’re always comparing someone to another person. When it comes to groups there’s Migos, the Atlanta Trio comprising of Quavo, Offset and Takeoff and then there’s Rae Sremmurd, comprising of Swae Lee and his real life older brother Slim Jxmmi. Ever since producer Mike Will Made It unleashed the siblings four years ago with their hit single “No Flex Zone”, they’ve showed that if anyone has a reason to flex…it’s them, they’ve grown into stars and legitimate hit makers. In order to further prove their dominance and showcase their talents on their third album the guys decided to take what OutKast did with Speakerboxxx/The Love Below and push the envelope by incorporating a Third disk. Consisting of their group album “SR3MM” as well as their individual solo debuts; Swae Lee’s “Swaecation” and Slim Jxmmi’s “JXMTRO”. When this was first announced ,just like most people I was really looking forward to hearing Swae Lee’s debut because the young man is undeniably a Super Star after proving his chops on 5x platinum single “Unforgettable” with French Montana, “Sativa” from Jhene Aiko, and “Poor Fool” from 2 Chainz just to name a few.

However, after giving these three projects a few listens, I’d have to say…Rae Sremmurd is here to say and don’t seem to be letting up anytime soon. Coming in at 9 tracks on each album and since it’s such a long project, I’ll highlight a few standout tracks from each project.

Rae Sremmurd- SR3MM

“Powerglide” Feat. Juicy J-Lead single that samples Three 6 Mafia and Project Pat’s “Side to Slide”, great addition putting Juicy on the track.

“Close” Feat. Travis $cott-Another great Travis $cott assisted record. Potential to be the next hit off album.

“Bedtime Stories” Feat. The Weeknd-Fellas letting the ladies know don’t expect them to tell lies other guys tell them, one of my other favorites from the album.

Swae Lee-Swaecation

“Heat of The Moment”-Probably my favorite track on this middle section. Swae letting the ladies know at the end of the day only person he truly trusts his himself because he doesn’t know or fully trust the ladies.

“Offshore” Feat. Young Thug- SN: I think it’s safe to say Young Thug is a star in his own right and a talented harmonizer, even when we don’t know what he’s saying.

“Guatemala”- “Unforgettable” vibes. This has potential to be a big record if worked to radio.

Slim Jxmmi-JXMTRO

“Anti-Social Smokers Club” Feat. Zoe Kravitz- Cool smoker’s anthem type track, surprising feature but dope bars from Zoe Kravitz.

“Cap” Feat. Trouble-One of my favorites from this section of the album, talking about those that stunt and flex when they really don’t having any reason to. New label mate Trouble stops in give his view on those that like to “Cap”.

“Chanel” Feat. Swae Lee & Pharrell-Dope record, single material with a reworked hook maybe done by Swae Lee.

Overall, this may not be their best project but it’s enough to show haters that Rae Sremmurd is here to stay.
